Diesel Heaters for Warehousing

Warehouse & Industrial Heating

Heating in industrial and warehousing applications can be a costly and challenging exercise. Convection heaters (also known as space heaters), such as electric fan forced heaters, heat the air which can quickly dissipate into the larger space most industrial and warehouse applications present, providing very little or inefficient heating to the desired workspace.

Radiant Heat

Diesel Heaters are an ideal solution for providing heating in larger spaces and perfectly suited for warehousing or industrial applications. As the radiant heat energy generated by the diesel heater is directional, and unaffected by the medium it travels through, it does not lose energy as it travels through the air. Radiant heat waves are absorbed by the solid objects they contact providing a highly efficient heating solution.

What About Emissions?

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is generated due to incomplete combustion of fuel. The highly efficient combustion system found in the Cool Breeze diesel heater range results in virtually no CO emissions being generated.

An independent study in Europe found that the Diesel Heater emissions contain 1ppm of Carbon Monoxide when measured 1cm from the machines exhaust. To put things into perspective, a well-tuned LPG forklift running at idle has CO concentrations of 3500 to 10000ppm when measured at the tailpipe.

As a result of their extremely low emissions, these heaters are safe for indoor use, and in most applications the CO emissions of the diesel heater would be negligible.

Power Advantage

Diesel Heaters rely on the combustion of diesel to generate their heat energy and although they do need some power to operate the electronics and fuel pump, they only draw 1A of current and plug into a standard 240V single phase power outlet. This presents a huge advantage where limited power is available or power generation is required, as an equivalent electric heater would require a 3-phase power connection and current draw of more than 20A

Running Cost

Factoring in the cost of diesel and the power required, the operating cost of an AH300 15kW Diesel Heater is substantially cheaper than an equivalent electric heater.

When comparing the AH300 Diesel heater to a 15kW Tiger Heater, the AH300 came in at a running cost that was 60% lower.

If you do not want the headache of refuelling, let Cool Breeze Rentals take care of the refuelling for you. Assuming 100 litres of diesel per delivery, the running cost of a diesel heater comes in at roughly the same cost as its electric alternative.

More information on the Diesel Heater range can be seen here.

Manufacturer's OH&S Concerns

A manufacturing facility in Sydney’s North West was concerned about the health and safety of employees during the summer months as they would often experience temperatures well above 30°C and occasionally experience temperatures in the 40’Cs.

Cool Breeze Rentals were contacted to provide a solution and were tasked to provide purchase and rental options. A site visit was undertaken, and the relative problematic areas were inspected. It was not necessary to cool the entire warehouse however they had some labour-intensive workspaces which needed some relief from the high temperatures.

The CB40iQ Evaporative Cooler was perfect for the larger, packaging and dispatch areas. These large evaporative coolers supply 40,000m³ of cooled airflow per hour, suitable for cooling spaces up to 300m². Ideal for cooling a larger area where people will be moving around.

In the manufacturing zones spot cooling of workspaces was required. Due to the limited floorspace, the CB14000 was utilised, providing 14,000m³ of cool air while taking up minimal floor space. Several units were strategically placed in the manufacturing environment for maximum effectiveness.

The evaporative coolers were the perfect choice due to their high airflow and their low power requirements, all plugging into standard 240V 10A power outlets.

The client elected to proceed with the rental option which provided them with the following primary benefits:

- When no longer required the machines are off-hired and removed from site. No storage space required when it is not in use.

- Maintenance is taken care of. If there is a fault with the machine it gets swapped out with a replacement ensuring minimal downtime.

Roma Function Centre is located in Liverpool in the western suburbs of Sydney, a short drive from the central business district.

With an impressive ballroom with a capacity to cater for 1100 people cocktail style, Roma Function Centre has hosted events for the corporate sector, community events and private celebrations.

A couple of days away from a wedding booking, the Function Centre’s cooling tower failed. The mechanical service company tasked with the repairs advised that the tower could not be repaired and had to be replaced. The lead time for the replacement was several weeks, leaving the Roma Function Centre without cooling in the peak of summer and during their busiest time of year.

Cool Breeze Rentals were contacted to provide a solution. As the aesthetics of the venue were critical spot coolers could not be placed inside the venue. The team at Cool Breeze Rentals Sydney proposed installing a 75kW Package Unit Air Conditioner to provide relief within the venue.

As the cooling tower had been disconnected, cold air was ducted from the 75kW Package Unit Air Conditioner directly into the air handing system for distribution throughout the venue. A door in the venue was replaced with a plywood panel with grilles and ducting for return air and painted white to match the aesthetics of the venue. A 60kVA generator was installed to power the temporary air conditioner as there was insufficient power onsite.

The solution provided by Cool Breeze Rentals allowed the function centre to continue operating as normal throughout summer while waiting for the mechanical services team to carry out their replacement works to the cooling tower.

Data and comms rooms are critical to the operation of most facilities. The servers, power supplies, networking equipment, UPS systems and more are generally housed in racking in high density in these environments and can generate a fair amount of heat.

HVAC systems are critical to the control of temperature in data and comms rooms and when these systems fail the temperature rapidly starts to rise. Rising temperatures are detrimental to equipment performance and could even lead to equipment shutdown or failure.

Cool Breeze Rentals received and out of hours emergency call on Australia Day in 2019. The HVAC system had failed for a server room at a hospital in Sydney’s inner Western suburbs and temperatures were rapidly rising.

A Cool Breeze Rentals after hours technician mobilised with several CB4900 4.9kW portable spot coolers and was onsite within two hours of receiving the call.

Units were unloaded and easily rolled into position and powered by a standard 10A power outlet. The hot air discharge was ducted onto existing exhaust venting.

Temperatures were stabilised giving the mechanical service team time to source parts and carry out the necessary repairs.

A pipe in the upstairs bathroom cabinet of a residential property had ruptured and began flooding the bathroom. Within minutes the floor drain was overwhelmed, and water started spreading beyond the bathroom into the upstairs carpeted area and down the staircase. Fortunately, someone was home when the pipe burst and was able to restrict the damage by turning off the water mains.

A large amount of loose water was mopped up, however this still left behind carpets which were soaked. To prevent mould from setting in this needed to be dried out as soon as possible. Cool Breeze Rentals was contacted for the hire of some suitable drying equipment.

Cool Breeze Rentals supplied several CB1100 carpet dryers with a couple of CBDH45 dehumidifiers. One side of the carpet was lifted and a CB1100 carpet dryer was setup to blow underneath it. Another CB1100 airmover was placed to blow air over the top of the carpet. A 45 litre per day dehumidifier was installed with a hose running into a nearby drainage point. A second set of dehumidifiers and airmovers were installed at the bottom of the staircase.

After two days of continuous operation the area was completely dry. The equipment was disconnected and the carpet re-installed.

The CBDH45 is a smaller stackable dehumidifier which is easy to handle and transport. With up to 45L per day moisture removal capacity, it is ideal for most residential and smaller commercial applications.

While unscheduled breakdowns with HVAC systems can cause major issues when these systems are regulating the temperature in sensitive environments such as data and comms rooms, it can also have negative effects in manufacturing.

A manufacturer in Prestons, Sydney had a unique situation manufacturing circuit boards. A section of the warehouse was closed off which served two purposes, to maintain a clean environment, and to control the temperature.

As PCB manufacturing machines generate a fair amount of heat, when their HVAC system failed temperatures escalated rapidly and as a result had to shut down manufacturing in this department due to fears of quality control issues on these critical components being produced.

Cool Breeze Rentals were tasked to provide a solution and were onsite the same day for a site visit to establish the best course of action.

Due to the size of the environment and amount of heat generated by their machines, it was decided that a 64kW packaged unit air conditioner was the ideal machine for the job.

The Sydney Cool Breeze Rentals team mobilised and were onsite the next morning to install. The 64kW package unit was installed on the outside of the PCB manufacturing facility. Temporary plywood sheets were installed over an unused doorway to allow for supply and return air ducting. Inside the facility inflatable ducts were installed, suspended from the ceiling, to assist in distributing the cold air throughout the entire space. The entire installation was completed within several hours.

On start-up of the package unit, the cooling effect was felt immediately and allowed production to resume. Cool Breeze Rentals' prompt response and installation allowed this manufacturer to continue producing, reducing costly downtime while maintaining the quality of product they are renowned for.

Office Building in Surry Hills NSW - Spot Cooler Hire

When an HVAC system fails in a building, temperatures can quickly rise due to heat generated by equipment, people, and direct sunlight. With most high-rise buildings not able to open windows, keeping workspaces cool can become an issue.

When the chiller failed on a multilevel building in March 2018 in Surry Hills Cool Breeze rentals was contacted to provide a temporary solution to their cooling requirements. Based on the works required to repair the chiller, the proposed solution would need to be in place for several weeks.

After a site inspection with the mechanical service team, it was decided that a combination of 20kW high capacity spot coolers and 4.9kW portable spot coolers would offer the best solution considering the client's requirements and site restrictions preventing larger equipment.

The 21.5kW CB20000 units were rolled into the lift and taken up to the 6th floor which was vacant at the time. Powered by the 3-phase power available on site, the CB20000 units had cold air duct runs installed into the fresh air system for distribution throughout the building. Hot air was discharged into the ceiling space and vented externally to the building. As the floor was un-attended condensate pumps were installed, and hoses were run to a suitable drain located in the floor's plant room.

CB4900 4.9kW Spot Coolers were deployed throughout the building to assist with hot zones or where additional cooling was required.

The hire of the CB20000 and CB4900 Spot coolers from Cool Breeze Rentals ran for 2 weeks and provided temporary relief from the heat for the building's occupants while the mechanical service teams carried out their repairs to the buildings chiller and HVAC system.

Cool Breeze Rentals is proud to introduce a new Diesel Infrared Heater range. The range runs off a standard 240v/10amp power point and burns Diesel to generate heat, no waste gas or smoky exhaust. Perfectly safe for larger indoor spaces, they project plenty of heat, are stylish and thermostat controlled (also very quiet). These are extremely popular in Scandinavia where they’re mainly used indoors in both domestic and commercial spaces. We have 3 sizes available. Call or email if you’d like some more information regarding these new heaters.

Shaping Up There are 2 areas involved, one being an octagon shaped Hocker consisting of 12 walled sides with a diameter of 31m and a 15m x 20m structure attached as an annex. All up, we were looking at 8,500 cubic meters. This was achieved by using a 250kW chiller with 2 x 150kW Air handling units with up to 250m of inflatable ducting. Adding to the annex was 1 x 64kW package unit with 2 event evaporative coolers.

For the 2014 Melbourne Spring Fashion Week Cool Breeze Rentals were involved as there were intricate design details of the amazing City Square truss structure erected each year. The challenge that presented itself with this event is that all cooling needed to be unobtrusive, come through the floor, fit into a budget and of course be effective! Cool Breeze Rentals delivered and installed for this event by utilising reducers to drop down the ducting from 600mm to 350mm and then protrude into the structure through the heart of the truss. This solution not only filled the brief given to us but filled the room with cold air!
